Self-Aligning Ball Bearing The internal geometry of the self-aligning ball bearing enables the accommodation of small angular misalignments between the shaft and housing. This is achieved by using two rows of balls that are staggered in a one-piece cage. The outer ring has a single spherical raceway with its centre on the axis of rotation of the bearing.
Self-aligning bearings have a low radial load capacity compared to equivalent sized angular bearings, as well as extremely low axial load carrying capacity. The self-aligning bearing is used where accurate alignment between the bearings of a mounting cannot be maintained.
