Clutch Bearings The clutch release bearing, located between the clutch fork and pressure plate, is an important part of the clutch operation. The performance life of the clutch bearing is relatively long, as it only does work when the clutch is released. Models of clutch release bearings differ, however most are rounded or angular face single row contact bearings. Flanged and self-aligning versions exist. The most common used material for this bearing is vacuum degassed, high-carbon, chromium-bearing steel, which is a standard material for precision bearings, rings and balls.
